This is a exclusive and limited release, and a selection.
This project is nonprofit.
May 11th 1968, 5 guys enter into a studio in England to record SHADES OF DEEP PURPLE.
Ever since the man in black has carried a shadow of purple, Deep
Purple. The musical adventure has been like a Rainbow colourful. Way
past early days we now have Night, Blackmore`s Night.
The late 60’s was a predominately experimental period for music. These
bands were moving in a stream that eventually led to prog. The years
from 1967 to 1972 was a peak in music history. Even Bach and Beethoven
was revived and sent out to people disguised in electronic instruments.
The era of prog, hard rock and metal was crafted. Sabbath, Purple and
Zeppelin are rose to fame. Sabbath and Zeppelin today labelled as prog
related by some, Purple is labelled as proto-prog by some, alongside
Beatles, Procol Harum, Doors and The Who to mention some. For others
Sabbath, Purple and Zeppelin will only be labelled as the makers of
heavy rock, or hard rock. Nevertheless, no wonder Purple and Blackmore
did a version of Help from The Beatles, being labelled as
proto-proggers both of them. But it was the Joe South song Hush that
became a hit in USA in 1968. I myself prefer Mandrake Root. My
favourite from MK I is however released in 1969 on the album called
Deep Purple and called April. The same year Deep Purple changes their
line-up and they are to release In Rock in 1970. The big bang of Deep
Purple. The Black Knight is one the scene for all to hear, and see.
So many have fell in love with their music and still are, in love.
Purple are still rocking. Ritchie Blackmore too. At concerts when his
white guitar splits the night and creates an almost spiritual
experience it rises up from his progfolk, medieaval style of music he
plays these days.
One man, in black, going his own way, always letting his creativity come up with great melodies. Still standing.
Millions have learned to play guitar from the monster riff from Smoke
on the water, with that spectacular story only reality can provide. The
song is, of course, included on the best live record ever, Made in
Japan, released in 1972. With outstanding guitar work from R. B. The
same album rated as number two on the proto-prog top 100 list at
www.progarchives.com
Many guitarists are today living from playing or trying to become
professional musician or just dream about becoming one like their
source inspiration, Ritchie Blackmore.
So, to celebrate Mr. Blackmore who rose from the fab times of late
60`tees and the fact that it is 40 years since Deep Purple recorded and
released Shades of Deep Purple in 2008 we have collected some
professional musicians, some struggling to get there and some dreamers
from 5 different countries to celebrate the fab 5 from 1968, and
especially Ritchie Blackmore as a true child of his time a wonderful
and influential time in music history! And hard to label. You might
also ask: Do we have to label everything? No we don`t, we may choose to
simply enjoy. Put a mark around May 11th in your calender, not only in
2008. But every year and let it be a day dedicated to music.

Thank you to all involved, the music lovers you can hear on the cd, to
John and Sue and to all my friends and a very special thank you from
the bottom of my heart to my close family who have put up with me and
my music discussions and all the hours of loud music! And of course,
Stian thank you! To Mark Colton from the great band Credo for really
helping out in UK. Jim Jacobsen for being there. To Graeme Duffin for
mastering. To Record Heaven for advice when we started up the prosess.
